In the film, the protagonist tells a story about a cat that was “both alive and dead.” Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment proposed by one of the creators of quantum mechanics, Erwin Schrödinger, in 1935.
Moments before filming began in Chinatown, someone from the local community approached a member of the film crew and informed them that all the Chinese neon signs hung for the shoot were upside down. They had to be urgently re-hung.
Forest Whitaker studied the Filipino martial art of Pekiti-Tirsia Kali under masters Dan Inosanto and Richard Bustillo (1942-2017) for several years. He applies the skills he acquired in this way in some fight scenes.
