- After several unsuccessful test screenings, the producers considered foregoing a wide theatrical release in favor of a premiere on the streaming service Hulu, owned by The Walt Disney Company.
- The film underwent reshoots repeatedly, causing the premiere date to be postponed several times. Initially, 'Dark Phoenix' was scheduled for April 2018, then moved to November 2018, and then again to February 14, 2019. Finally, the final release date was set for June 7, 2019.
- This is the first film in the franchise that did not feature the character of Wolverine as played by Hugh Jackman, as the actor insisted that "Logan" (2017) be the final chord for Wolverine.
- Tai Sheridan, who played Cyclops, admitted that he did not work out for the film, but simply wore a special suit during filming.
- This film was intended to launch a new series of films about the X-Men with young heroes (Jean Grey, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Storm, Mystique, Beast, Quicksilver, Jubilee, Blindspot), already introduced to the public in previous films, but these plans had to be abandoned due to unsatisfactory box office results.
