• The character of Jane Craig was based on Susan Zirinsky, president of "CBS News." Before filming began, Holly Hunter followed Zirinsky around for several days and got the same haircut as her.
• A street set nearly 295 meters long and featuring 17 houses with shared walls was constructed for the film. At the time, it was the longest set built in Britain in a quarter of a century.
• Extras for the scene with the Home Guard were selected based on their physical resemblance to the characters from the sitcom “Dad’s Army” (1968-1977), a once-popular BBC show.
• The newsreel footage of air battles between the Royal Air Force and the Luftwaffe shown in cinemas was taken from Guy Hamilton’s (1922-2016) historical war drama “The Battle of Britain” (1969).
