What's left behind the scenes
- In preparation for the role, Keanu Reeves received training in shooting with two pistols and in hand-to-hand combat from former special forces soldiers. A video of the actor at a shooting range was posted online, showing Reeves constantly moving from side to side, firing live ammunition at targets with different types of weapons.
- The story of John Wick was conceived as a trilogy. This is the second part of the trilogy.
- This is the first time since the release of "The Matrix Revolutions" (2003) that Laurence Fishburne and Keanu Reeves have appeared on screen together.
- The film's director, Chad Stahelski, worked as a stunt double/stuntman on the set of the "The Matrix" trilogy.
- Principal photography of the film began on October 26, 2015, in New York. Filming also took place in Rome (Italy) and Montreal (Canada).

The weapons that Reeves' character acquires from Sommelier (two pistols, a carbine, and a shotgun) also underwent extensive tuning at Taran Tactical Innovations, owned by T. Butler.
