Short description
Greg Heffley is headed for big things, but first he has to survive the scariest, most humiliating experience of any kid’s life – middle school! That won’t be easy, considering he’s surrounded by hairy-freckled morons, wedgie-loving bullies and a moldy slice of cheese with nuclear cooties!
What's left behind the scenes
- Angie did not exist in Jeff Kinney's books (he is listed in the credits as the screenwriter). This character was invented specifically for the film adaptation and was played by Chloe Grace Moretz.
- The ice cream in the scene where Colin offers it to Rowley (played by Alex Ferris and Robert Capron, respectively) was made of mashed potatoes. This trick was used because real ice cream melted instantly under the spotlights.
- Steve Zahn wanted to participate in this project because he had read Jeff Kinney's books to his own children at one time.
- The school scenes for the main character were filmed in three different locations: the exterior was shot separately, classroom scenes were shot separately, and gym scenes were shot separately.
- The scene with Rachel Harris and the character played by Devon Bostick was filmed at night, although the plot takes place during the day. Artificial lighting was used for filming.
