• When the film was edited for television, Alicia Silverstone's character's name was changed from Darien to Adrian. Alan Shapiro wrote the screenplay based on memories of his own past, but the woman he wrote about sued him because she bore the same name as his 'fictional' heroine.
• During the filming of the movie, Alicia Silverstone turned 15, gained emancipation from her parents, and became financially independent. She also came out from under child labor laws, which would have limited the amount of time she could dedicate to filming.
• According to director and screenwriter Alan Shapiro, the film is based on real events. After graduating from college, Shapiro rented a guesthouse from a married couple in Los Angeles. At the time, Shapiro was trying to write scripts for Hollywood studios, but he was constantly distracted by the homeowners' underage daughter, Darian, who was in love with him. Shapiro, however, wanted nothing to do with her and rejected her advances. One day he returned home and found an obscenity scratched onto his recently purchased new car. Shapiro turned to the girl's parents, but she denied everything, and they preferred to believe her. They didn't even believe him when Darian's classmate corroborated his story. In the end, Shapiro moved out and never saw Darian again. Many years later, Shapiro's wife reminded him of the incident and suggested it could make a good thriller, so he began writing the screenplay for "The Crush."
