What's left behind the scenes

  • Olivia Wilde was initially cast in the lead role in the film, but soon left the project.
  • Luke Evans was approved for the role of Vernon, but he was unable to participate in the project due to filming on Bill Condon's musical film "Beauty and the Beast" (2017). The role was subsequently reworked and given to South African actor Sharlto Copley.
  • Filming was interrupted on the second day by a visit from the police. Someone in a nearby store heard gunshots and called the police.
  • The main reason Ben Wheatley set the film in the 1970s was the absence of mobile phones at that time.
  • The role of Chris was written for Cillian Murphy after he approached the director and said he would like to play it.
  • In the scene where Charlto Copley's character is engulfed in flames, no computer graphics were used. The actor refused a stunt double and performed the scene himself in a fireproof suit. Four people with fire extinguishers were on standby nearby.
  • Luke Evans was cast as Vernon, but he was unable to participate in the project due to filming in Bill Condon's musical film "Beauty and the Beast" (2017). The role was then given, with corresponding changes, to South African actor Sharlto Copley.
