Short description
A young street-smart, Nathan Drake and his wisecracking partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan embark on a dangerous pursuit of “the greatest treasure never found” while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The screenplay for the film is based on the Uncharted series of console games.
  • In the episode where Nate and Chloe go ashore, Nolan North – the actor who voiced and played Nathan Drake in the Uncharted game series – is lying on a deck chair.
  • Tom Holland was cast as Nathan Drake after Sony rejected his proposal to make a film about a young James Bond.
  • The conversation between the characters played by Tom Holland and Sofia Ali was filmed after the main shooting period. By that time, Ali was already working in Australia, so the actors were filmed separately. Director Ruben Fleischer directed the actress via the screen of his iPad from his home in New Jersey.
  • The scene where the characters of Tom Holland and Sofia Ali find themselves locked in a small room that slowly fills with water was filmed by building a set and slowly submerging it in a pool. This was more convenient both from the point of view of the actors' safety and from the point of view of the need to shoot many takes.
  • The conversation between the characters played by Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in the ship's hold had to be reshot in front of a green screen, while the rest of the scene was filmed on a natural set. The reshoots took place after principal photography had wrapped, and Wahlberg had gained weight for another project, so for about 25 seconds, viewers see Wahlberg’s character having gained 11 kg (24 lbs).
  • The young actors who played Nathan and Sam in their childhood were the same height, so to make Sam appear taller than Nathan, they had to put him on boxes and so on, and also film from a specific angle.
  • Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were approached several times by representatives of Naughty Dog, LLC with a proposal to write the screenplay for this film, but they refused, stating that the company would simply end up with another film like those in the Indiana Jones franchise.
  • The film was shot in the summer of 2020, and the episode at the very beginning of the film (when Nathan is being dragged by a cargo plane high above the ground) was filmed in a studio parking lot in Germany.
  • Director Ruben Fleischer had never worked with Tati Gabrielle (who played Jo Braddock here) before. He learned that during the filming of the Sabrina series, the actress was blonde with a medium-length haircut. Now her hair had grown out and looked damaged, so in this film, the actress had to wear a wig to give her the previous look.
  • During the jump scene at the auction, from the balcony onto the chandelier hanging high above the floor, Tom Holland performed without a stunt double, although a stunt double was used for the fall to the floor.
  • Ruben Fleischer added the scene in the finale, which reveals that Nathan's brother is alive, because the character remains alive in the video game that served as the source material for the script, and if a sequel had been approved, his role would have been expanded.
