• To get into shape for the role of Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford regularly cycled over 60 kilometers at a time and took daily walks.
• The film's title references a real object (a device supposedly created by Archimedes), fragments of which were found in 1900 in the wreckage of a ship that sank 2,000 years ago. This object was called the "Antikythera mechanism," as the ship sank near the Greek island of Antikythera, however, "Antikythera" is the name of the island, not the mechanism itself, as presented in the film.
• In one interview, Harrison Ford spoke in detail about how the filmmakers "rejuvenated" him for the flashbacks using digital technology. According to the actor, there is a special program for this.
• Mads Mikkelsen plays a former (and, most likely, current) Nazi whose image was based on Wernher von Braun (1912-1977), the most famous of the 1,600 Nazi scientists who, at the end of World War II (1939-1945), were taken from Germany to the United States as part of a secret program called "Operation Paperclip." Von Braun became the head of the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, where the project to launch the Saturn V super-heavy launch vehicle was developed and implemented, and it ultimately became a key element of the Apollo program to reach the Moon. He owed some of his fame in the United States to the "Disney TV" project, where he was presented as a hero of the space race. In the later years of his life, von Braun’s membership in the Nazi Party was usually explained by political expediency, but this claim was later questioned. In fascist Germany, von Braun was the developer and chief inspiration behind the rocket program, which developed the V-2 rocket that killed thousands of civilians. Moreover, these rockets were produced in the underground concentration camp "Dora-Mittelbau" in Thuringia, and the project was headed by none other than von Braun.
• The Nazis were genuinely fascinated by various forms of mysticism and occultism, which is where their racial theories and policies originated, not to mention their love for all sorts of supposedly supernatural artifacts. The SS symbol (double lightning bolt) was derived from Armanic runes invented by Austrian mystic Guido von List (1848-1919). An artifact known as the "Spear of Destiny" or "Spear of the Centurion Longinus," which was used to pierce the crucified Jesus, was kept in the Hofburg Imperial Palace (the winter residence of the Austrian Habsburgs). Adolf Hitler (1889-1945) was very interested in it at one time and even mentioned it in his book "Mein Kampf" (1923, 1926). Heinrich Himmler (1900-1945) actively searched for the Holy Grail, and after reading the book "The Crusade Against the Grail" (1933), he inducted its author, Otto Rahn (1904-1939), into the SS.
• During a fight scene, Olivier Richters accidentally hit Harrison Ford in the face with such force that Ford was diagnosed with a mild concussion.
