Short description
A horrible toxic accident transforms downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze into a new evolution of hero: THE TOXIC AVENGER! Now wielding a glowing mop with super-human strength, he must race against time to save his son and stop a ruthless and power-hungry tyrant bent on harnessing toxic superpowers to strengthen his polluted empire.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, the film was intended to be rated PG-13 (content may be unsuitable for children under 13, but the film does not contain erotic scenes or nudity), but it ultimately received an R rating (contains material intended for adult audiences only, the film includes erotic scenes, scenes of violence and drug use, as well as profanity).
  • The intention to remake the original 1984 film (“The Toxic Avenger,” Michael Herz, Lloyd Kaufman) was first announced in 2010. Steve Pink was planned to be the screenwriter and director. In 2013, negotiations were underway with Arnold Schwarzenegger for his participation in the project, but he declined the role in favor of filming with Alan Taylor on the sci-fi action film “Terminator Genisys” (2015) due to constant delays in the start of filming. In 2016, Conrad Vernon became the film's director, but he didn't last long, followed by Kevin Smith, who had disagreements with studio management. In 2018, Legendary Pictures acquired the rights to the film, and a year later Macon Blair became the director and screenwriter.
  • At the beginning of the film, the viewer learns that the action takes place in St. Roma Village. The letters on the sign are faded, creating the impression that it says Tromaville (where the original 1984 film was set).
  • The bail bond company mentioned in the film is named after the mayor of Tromaville in the original 1984 film, a role played by Pat Ryan.
  • The journalist is named Melvin (surname – Ferd), just like the main character in the original film, where Melvin was played by Mitch Cohen.
  • According to director and screenwriter Macon Blair, Peter Dinklage did not appear on screen as Toki in makeup. It was British actress Louisa Guerreiro, originally from Portugal. Filming was not easy for her – considering the heat and makeup weighing 13.5 kg. As Blair later recounted, Dinklage was filmed in a separate room for all scenes in the role of Toki, after which the footage was given to Guerreiro to carefully study Dinklage's mannerisms and speech, and then she repeated everything on set. After that, Dinklage voiced Toki as played by Guerreiro, in other words, "Guerreiro played Dinklage, while Dinklage voiced Guerreiro."
