What's left behind the scenes

  • Edgar Wright's first directorial work shot in the United States.
  • Some episodes were filmed in Juliette, Georgia, in the same locations where John Evnet filmed the drama "Fried Green Tomatoes" (1991). The "Halfway Diner" is still operating there.
  • From time to time, director Edgar Wright needed Ansel Elgort to look more stern. In such cases, he would take out his phone and show the actor a frame of Malcolm McDowell from Stanley Kubrick's cult dystopian film "A Clockwork Orange" (1971) – as an example to follow.
  • Fearing to lose contact with the actors and cameramen during filming, Edgar Wright refused to ride in the support vehicle and ordered that he be tied to the roof of the car from which the shooting was being conducted.
  • Jamie Foxx often stayed late on set to watch Kevin Spacey act.
  • The role played by John Hamm was written specifically for him. Furthermore, Hamm was the only actor who was present at the initial script read-through and then appeared in the film.
  • Early versions of the script were set in Los Angeles, but filming ultimately took place in Atlanta. All other cities offering tax incentives to filmmakers were rejected due to unsuitable climates, or filming there fell through at the last moment. In the end, the script was rewritten and Atlanta was chosen as the setting.
  • The film's title comes from the identically named composition by the duo of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel from the album Bridge Over Troubled Waters (1970).
  • S.J. Jones, who played the deaf-mute guardian, lost his hearing at the age of 7 after contracting meningitis.
  • Whenever Jamie Foxx and Kevin Spacey were in a scene, Edgar Wright would whisper to anyone nearby: "This is a double Oscar-winning shot."
  • The first scene of the film partially repeats the plot of the Mint Royale music video — Blue Song. A snippet from this video can be noticed in the episode where Baby and his foster father are watching the news on television, and Baby changes the channel.
  • From time to time, director Edgar Wright needed Ansel Elgort to look more stern. In those cases, he would take out his phone and show the actor a frame of Malcolm McDowell from Stanley Kubrick's cult dystopian film 'A Clockwork Orange' (1971) – as an example to emulate.
  • Every time Jamie Foxx and Kevin Spacey were in a scene, Edgar Wright would whisper to anyone nearby: 'This is a double Oscar-winning shot.'
