What's left behind the scenes
- The film was shot near the very prison in Virginia where Richard Perry Loving and Mildred Loving were actually held, and in the very courthouse where they pleaded guilty to the crime of entering into an interracial marriage. (Such marriages were legally prohibited in Virginia since 1924.)
- Actress Ruth Negga, who played the role of Mildred, was herself born into an interracial marriage.
