What's left behind the scenes

  • The Englishman Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980) and the Frenchman François Truffaut (1932-1984) spoke French and English respectively, so they could understand each other, but they still invited Helen Scott as an interpreter.
  • Kent Jones reviewed all 27 hours of the interview that Hitchcock gave to Truffaut.
  • The name and surname of Helen Scott (1915-1987) are not listed in the credits, although her voice is heard throughout the film. She was born in New York, but grew up in Paris, where her father worked for the Associated Press agency. During World War II, Scott worked for a French Resistance radio station in Brazzaville, Congo, for which she was decorated. She later worked in New York and assisted François Truffaut when he needed an interpreter.
