The film is based on a true story that happened to a family living near Fort Worth, Texas, USA.
The paradise shown in the film has nothing to do with Anna's real life.
Filming took place in the state of Georgia, USA.
The church in the film is the North Decatur Presbyterian Church in the city of Decatur, Georgia.
Brighton Sharbino, who played Abby Beam, and John Carroll Lynch, who played Pastor Scott, previously starred together in the series "The Walking Dead" (2010). Sharbino played Lizzie Samuels, and Lynch played Eastman.
One of the episodes during church service features the band Third Day.
The film contains references to Queen Latifah's previous work in cinema (she plays waitress Angela). Firstly, her line "I drive fast" is taken from the action film "Taxi" (Tim Story, 2004).
