Short description
Growing up poor in Madras, India, Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyengar earns admittance to Cambridge University during WWI, where he becomes a pioneer in mathematical theories with the guidance of his professor, G.H. Hardy.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Ramanujan married Janaki in July 1909, when she was only 10 years old. Janaki remained in her mother's house until she turned 12, and then she and Ramanujan's mother moved to Madras to live with him.
  • Many lines spoken by Godfrey Harold Hardy (1877-1947), played by Jeremy Irons – and especially his monologue at the beginning of the film and the eulogy for Ramanujan – are taken verbatim from his personal notes left after his death.
