What's left behind the scenes

  • The film's premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 11, 2016, was met with applause. Before the audience had even left the theater, numerous scathing reviews began to appear. Many speculated that this Internet trolling campaign was launched and sponsored by the Turkish government. The number of negative reviews reached tens of thousands even before the film's release.
  • The film was sponsored by American billionaire of Armenian origin Kirk Kerkorian, whose ancestors survived the horrors of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
  • The highest-budget film on the topic of the Armenian genocide and the first to feature major movie stars.
  • All proceeds from the film's theatrical release went to non-profit organizations, including the Elton John AIDS Foundation and other human rights and charitable organizations.
