What's left behind the scenes
- According to Matt Damon, Christian Bale lost over 30 kg by the start of filming. Before that, Bale had gained weight for his role in Adam McKay’s film "Vice", and he had about seven months to lose it. When Damon asked Bale how he did it, he replied that he simply stopped eating.
- During one of the scenes on the Le Mans track, the famous Belgian racing driver Jacky Ickx can be seen in the crowd; he is a six-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
- While working on the role, Christian Bale took driving lessons at a specialized driving school run by former racer Bob Bondurant.
- According to Matt Damon, he agreed to the role in this film for the opportunity to be on set with Christian Bale.
- The Le Mans track as it was in the 1960s no longer exists. The filmmakers had to film sections of five different tracks, each time checking whether the cars were in the correct positions and taking weather conditions into account.
- Dana Gurney (1931-2018) was played by his younger son, Alex Gurney.
- The 24-hour endurance race in Daytona Beach, Florida, was filmed in Fontana, California.
- Racer Carroll Shelby (1923-2012) wears a Heuer Carrera Calibre 18 Telemeter watch. Watches from this company, TAG Heuer, are strongly associated with racing. In 1963, the company released the Carrera Collection in honor of the legendary "Carrera Panamericana" race (held from 1950 to 1954).
- The race in Daytona Beach was organized from February 5-6, 1966, while the "24 Hours of Le Mans" race was held from June 18-19 of the same year.
- Both Matt Damon and Christian Bale agreed that the easiest scene to film was the argument in the bar. Both actors’ roles involved action scenes that required weeks of memorizing every movement, whereas here they only rehearsed for 20 minutes, and didn't even need to portray anger on camera.
