The name of the bird, La Carcagne, is borrowed from Franco-Canadian folklore, but there it referred to a witch with a wolf's head and bat wings. Like a Banshee, it is a symbol of death.
The film was poorly received due to the bird's ridiculous appearance, but nevertheless, until the end of the 1950s, "The Giant Claw" was the most popular giant monster film after "King Kong" and "Godzilla".
