Short description
This powerful follow-up to “The Gathering Storm” follows Churchill from 1940 to 1945 as he guided his beleaguered nation through the crucible of the war years--even as his marriage was encountering its own struggles.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Clement Richard Attlee (leader of the Labour Party and the 62nd Prime Minister of Great Britain, 1883-1967) is played by a Scotsman, and he speaks with a Scottish accent. In reality, Attlee was born in London and did not have a Scottish accent.
  • The prototype for the character who is awarded the Victoria Cross (the highest military award in Great Britain) was Eric James Brindley Nicholson (1917-1945) from the 249th Fighter Squadron.
  • When Winston Churchill (1874-1965) walks from room to room and dictates his famous speech, a modern mechanical door closer (a device for automatically closing open doors) can be noticed on one of the doors.
