What's left behind the scenes

  • A minor incident occurred on set: during filming, actress Jessica Biel got carried away and shot an arrow that hit the camera directly. This moment can be seen in the bonus features section of the DVD releases.
  • Sarah Michelle Gellar was considered for the role of Danika Talos. The creators hoped that the participation of a star from another film project dedicated to fighting vampires ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997-2003)) would attract a larger audience, but she declined, and the role went to independent film star Parker Posey.
  • Wesley Snipes and Kris Kristofferson are the only actors to appear in all three parts of the trilogy.
  • Director Guillermo del Toro refused to shoot the third installment, instead participating in the creation of "Hellboy" (2004).
  • There are 3 endings to the film: Theatrical Ending: Since Blade fought fairly, Drake gives him a 'farewell gift' by transforming his body into Blade's before dying. The FBI discovers the body and believes Blade is dead. But the body reverts back to Drake in the morgue. Blade drives off into the night to continue his endless war against vampires. Director's Cut Ending: The body taken by the FBI agents does indeed belong to Blade, but he is not dead. He suddenly comes to in the morgue, attacks the FBI agents, and prepares to bite the nurse in the neck. This ending leaves open the question of whether Blade will revive vampires with this bite, or whether his human side will prevail over the vampiric one. This ending is present on the film's DVD with a description stating that the film's director, David Goyer, liked it the most. Alternative Director's Cut Ending: The 'Daystar' virus travels the world, destroying all vampires. Blade walks into the sun, his long battle is over. The final shot shows the 'Night Hunters' with new enemies – werewolves. This version of the ending was used in the novel based on the film and was also included on the DVD, but was initially rejected by the director as it did not align with Blade's story.
  • In the scene where Blade sits in handcuffs at the police station, Danica Talos comes to him and sits on his lap facing him. In the next scene, she is sitting only on Blade's right leg. And when the camera changes position, Danica is again facing Blade.
  • Sarah Michelle Gellar was considered for the role of Danika Talos. The creators hoped that the participation of a star from another film project dedicated to fighting vampires (*Buffy the Vampire Slayer*, 1997-2003) would attract a larger audience, but she declined, and the role went to independent film star Parker Posey.
  • Director Guillermo del Toro declined to film a third installment, instead participating in the creation of "Hellboy: The Golden Army" (2004).
