Mick Jagger was originally considered for the role of Ferreter.
Steve Martin auditioned for the role of Brad.
The role of the criminologist was offered to actor Vincent Price, but he declined due to a busy schedule with other projects.
Oakley Court castle in Berkshire, where the film was shot, previously served as a location for several well-known horror films, including 'The Plague of the Zombies' (1966). The castle is a Victorian country house.
As a tradition during screenings of the film, the audience actively participates: reciting lines in unison and dancing. Some viewers bring items symbolizing a particular character, and 'virgins' (those who have not yet participated in similar revelry) are greeted by the chorus and undergo a kind of 'initiation ritual'.
In Quentin Tarantino's 'Pulp Fiction' (1994), one of the characters (Anthony Roccamora – Mia Wallace's bodyguard, crippled by Marcellus Wallace, who is never shown) asks to be called Rocky Horror.
In 2005, the film was included in the National Film Registry of the U.S. Library of Congress.
