Short description
In 1970s England, three blue-collar friends spend their days joking, drinking, fighting and chasing girls. Freddie wants to leave their working-class world but cool, charismatic Bruce and lovable loser Snork are happy with life the way it is. When Freddie gets a new job as a door-to-door salesman and bumps into his old school sweetheart Julie, the gang are forced to make choices that will change their lives for ever.
What's left behind the scenes
- David Earl himself invented Brian, the role he played in the film at the request of the film's directors, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant – his longtime fans.
- Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant claim that the overall idea for the film was inspired by Bruce Springsteen's song “Thunder Road,” the first track on his 1975 album “Born to Run.”
- All the night scenes were filmed during the day.
- The film's box office failure in the UK convinced the American distributor not to waste time on a theatrical release, and instead release the film directly on DVD.
- Much of the dialogue between Ricky Gervais’s character and Anne Reid, who played the mother of Gervais’s character, was improvised.
