Short description
John James is a writer; his wife has left him. He moves with his two middle-school children to an isolated house off a dirt road in South Carolina. The property has an Indian burial mound, which fascinates his daughter, Louisa, who's entering puberty.

What's left behind the scenes

  • A film adaptation of a story from the horror anthology Nocturnes (2004) by Irish writer John Connolly.
  • A nanny, Mrs. Emsworth, is hired to look after the Kostner children. That was the name of the heroine of a vampire story written by British writer Edward Frederick Benson (1867-1940).
  • During filming, cinematographer Checco Varese fell and broke his right arm. After suffering for a while with a cast and painkillers, he flew from the set to Los Angeles for surgery, and his duties were performed by Antonio Calvache for five days.
