What's left behind the scenes

  • Charlize Theron was originally supposed to play the role of Eliza.
  • Tom Cruise was initially intended to play Frank, but he was replaced by Sam Worthington. Ultimately, due to "creative differences," Sam left the project, and the role went to Johnny Depp.
  • Filming on boats through the Venetian canals lasted for seven nights. To film this part of the movie, Jolie even learned to operate several types of boats.
  • All of Jolie’s clothing was handmade and created specifically for her – with the exception of one vintage grey dress by Charles James (1950s).
  • Following the success of the 2006 film "The Lives of Others," director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck was entrusted with making many decisions regarding casting and script details when working on this film. However, as soon as filming began, all control of the process passed into the hands of the film's stars, and eventually, they practically made all the decisions. When the director was asked why he decided to complete filming, he replied that he couldn’t refuse to film with the two most beautiful actresses in the world and in the most beautiful locations on the planet.
  • Initially, Frank was to be played by Tom Cruise, but he was replaced by Sam Worthington. Ultimately, due to "creative differences," Sam left the project, and the role went to Johnny Depp.
