Short description
Theseus is a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion, who is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Working titles for the film were 'War of the Gods' and 'Dawn of War'.
  • Once all agreements regarding filming were reached, and only some financial matters remained to be discussed, there were still six months before the start of filming. Henry Cavill immediately began intensive training, even though the producers warned him that there was no money for his instructors yet. Cavill decided to pay them out of his own pocket until funding was found. Six months passed, the start of filming was approaching, and Cavill was told that money for the instructors had not been found and that he should stop training. The actor did so. Another six months passed, and Cavill was informed that funding had finally been found and that he could start training again. Cavill started training again to get in shape, but the funding stopped again. Cavill was asked to hold off on training for a while. When, after some time, a new source of funding was found and it was decided to contact Cavill to tell him about it, it turned out that he hadn't stopped training the last time.
  • The bronze bull, a torture device of King Hyperion in the film, actually existed and was used in ancient Greece.
  • To make it seem like the gods move much faster than mortals, scenes with them were filmed at 1,000 frames per second.
  • In the scene where Theseus plunges a knife into Hyperion’s throat, the latter’s blood gushes out. In the next shot, the blood is gone, and then it appears again.
  • For the role of Zeus, actor Luke Evans lost almost 14 kg in seven weeks.
  • Every morning before filming began, Henry Cavill (who played Theseus) applied dark-colored cream to his skin.
  • Every day before filming began, Henry Cavill did 2,000 push-ups.
