What's left behind the scenes
- The sequel was announced 3 days before the release of the first "Deadpool" film. Ryan Reynolds signed a contract to star in the sequel on April 6, 2016.
- Tim Miller, the director of the 2016 film "Deadpool", refused to shoot the sequel due to creative differences with Ryan Reynolds. Following Tim Miller, Junkie XL, a Dutch musician and composer who wrote the music for the first film, also left the project.
- Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lizzy Caplan, Kerry Washington, Sienna Miller, Ruby Rose, Mackenzie Davis, Kelly Rohrbach, Eve Hewson, Sofia Boutella, Stephanie Sigman, Sylvia Hoeks, and Janelle Monáe all auditioned for the role of Domino. After much deliberation, the filmmakers chose Zazie Beetz.
- The studio executives were considering David Leitch, Rupert Sanders, Drew Goddard, and Magnus Martens as directors for the sequel.
- Rob Liefeld, the original comic book author, wanted Russell Crowe to play Cable.
- The character Domino has vitiligo: a condition characterized by the loss of melanin in patches of skin.
- The cats depicted on Deadpool’s t-shirt belong to Taylor Swift.
- Matt Damon makes a small cameo appearance in the film. Reynolds met him at a party where he told him about the monologue with toilet paper. Damon liked the scene so much that he immediately agreed to participate in the filming.

- At the beginning of the film, Deadpool is about to attack Chinese gangsters and observes them from a neighboring rooftop. Behind him, a sign is visible with the Chinese inscription 'Pool of dead' – effectively the main character's name.
- The scene where Deadpool escapes from a crowd of angry gangsters is inspired by a similar scene from the beginning of 'Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark'. There, Harrison Ford's hero was running from natives, urging the pilot to start the plane.
- The X-Men cameos were filmed on the 'Dark Phoenix' set without the involvement of the 'Deadpool 2' crew.
- Lynch specifically filmed fake scenes with members of "Task Force X" to insert them into the trailer.
- Lynch wanted the super-power dampeners to constantly malfunction during the mutant prison riot. The director wanted to showcase the various mutant powers, but ultimately had to abandon the idea due to its cost.
- “The longest death scene” was originally even longer.
- When Deadpool dies, the creators add snippets of music from the finale of "Logan," from the scene with Wolverine’s death, to the soundtrack.
- The Celine Dion song in the credits appeared thanks to director David Lynch. He was trying to figure out how to create a pause between Vanessa’s (Morena Baccarin) death and the start of the main storyline.
