Short description
The Autobots continue to work for NEST, now no longer in secret. But after discovering a strange artifact during a mission in Chernobyl, it becomes apparent to Optimus Prime that the United States government has been less than forthright with them.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The world premiere of the film took place in Moscow as part of the Moscow International Film Festival on June 23, 2011.
  • Due to a conflict with the film's director, Megan Fox was forced to leave the project.
  • One million US dollars was spent over two days of filming at the Milwaukee Art Museum.
  • Michael Bay is the only director who has been allowed to film the launch of the Space Shuttle twice («Armageddon» (1998) and «Transformers 3»).
  • The Transformers were created by toy company Hasbro in 1984, later becoming a media empire of animated series and comics. Today, the rights to the Transformers comics belong to IDW Publishing and they complement both the film franchise and the original Transformers universe.
  • The main contenders for the role of Carly were Brooklyn Decker and Sarah Wright. Gemma Arterton, Ashley Greene, Miranda Kerr, Bar Refaeli, Amber Heard, Camilla Belle, Katie Cassidy, Heidi Montag, and Anna Kendrick were also considered.
  • Michael Bay receives 8% of sales of all merchandising products – toys, souvenirs, comics – related to the film. This does not apply to original Transformers toys not branded in the style of the film franchise.
  • During the filming of a car scene in Indiana, a tow rope snapped. Breaking free, it seriously injured the driver. Gabriela Sedioyo survived, but lost an eye, suffered severe brain damage, and became half-paralyzed.
  • A total of 532 cars were destroyed during the entire filming of the movie.
  • Bay planned to film one of the action scenes in Chicago, on the roof of the Marina City twin skyscrapers, for which the owners demanded $40,000. Seemingly an insignificant amount by Hollywood standards, but Bay believed it was inflated and refused to deal with the "extortionists".
  • Sentinel Prime (originally voiced by Leonard Nimoy) says before the final battle with Optimus: “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.” Interestingly, this phrase is a quote from Spock (“Star Trek” (1966-1969)), a role played by Leonard Nimoy.
  • In the moment when Sam is called by the head of intelligence, an airplane with tail number N4500X is visible in the background. The same number was on the Decepticon helicopter in the first part.
  • Immediately after the Autobots leave Earth on a spaceship, Dylan (Carlie’s boss) calls Sam from his plane to gloat about it. On the screen of his phone, which he holds to his left ear, the dial pad and the green call button are still visible.
  • At the very end, when Sam and Carly are hugging, we can see the camera constantly changing angles. As the angle changes, so does the position of Carly’s hands – sometimes they are behind Sam’s back, sometimes around his neck.
  • In the scene in "Pripyat/Chernobyl", Ukrainian soldiers dressed in Soviet uniforms and vehicles with red stars are shown.
  • Bay originally planned to shoot one of the action scenes in Chicago, on the roof of the Marina City twin towers, for which their owners demanded $40,000. While seemingly a small amount by Hollywood standards, Bay considered it inflated and refused to give in to the “extortionists.”
