Short description
An American man returns to a corrupt, Japanese-occupied Shanghai four months before Pearl Harbor and discovers his friend has been killed. While he unravels the mysteries of the death, he falls in love and discovers a much larger secret that his own government is hiding.
What's left behind the scenes
- In 2008, the Chinese government suddenly banned filming, despite the film company already having invested $3 million in the sets. Filming had to be moved to Thailand, where 1940s Shanghai was recreated.
- Johnny Depp expressed interest in the project for some time, but the actor ultimately did not participate in it.
- John Cusack learned about the casting by chance and offered his candidacy for the film himself.
