What's left behind the scenes

  • The first film to feature Mechagodzilla and King Caesar.
  • There are two other films with the same title, but they are not sequels to this one. There is only one continuation – “Terror of Mechagodzilla” (1975), where Godzilla once again faces an alien robot.
  • In one of the original script versions, Mothra and a new monster, Garugan, were supposed to appear in the film. Mothra was later dropped and replaced with Mechagodzilla, and Garugan was renamed King Barugan. He was supposed to be a dark red monster with a bronze sheen, whose main ability was to reflect the thermal attacks of enemies. Barugan was intended to be almost the same size as Godzilla – 50 m tall and weighing 30,000 tons. In the final version of the script, this kaiju was replaced by King Caesar. The classic monster Anguirus also appeared in the film. This was his last appearance in the Showa period (1954–1975).
  • The film was originally titled “Godzilla vs. Bionic Monster,” but due to the popularity of the series The Bionic Woman at the time, the film was later renamed “Godzilla vs. Cosmic Monster.”
  • In Italy, the film was released under the title “Godzilla vs. the Robot,” and in France, as “Godzilla vs. the Mechanical Monster.”
