What's left behind the scenes
- Margot Robbie plays in an amateur hockey league, but before working on the role of figure skater Tonya Harding, she didn't have much experience skating.
- Steven Rogers' screenplay was included in the so-called "Black List" of 2016 – a list of the most promising, but unrealized films.
- Figure skater Sarah Kawahara trained actress Margot Robbie for the role.
- Allison Janney dreamed of becoming a figure skater as a child and trained seriously. However, at the age of seventeen, she accidentally crashed into sliding glass doors, injuring her right leg. Due to the injury, Janney spent about 8 weeks in the hospital and missed her first semester of college. After the incident, she didn't skate for many years.
- Screenwriter Steven Rogers is an old friend of Allison Janney. He wrote the role of LaVona Golden specifically for her. Previously, Rogers had written roles several times, hoping Janney would play them, but they went to other actresses.
- The real Tonya Harding participated in the project as a consultant.
- Despite all the training, Margot Robbie was unable to perform a triple axel on her own, a move Tonya Harding was known for. But, generally speaking, very few people in the world are capable of performing such a trick, and they are usually professional athletes. For the film, this scene was created using computer graphics.
- When Tonya Harding herself watched the film, she especially liked that it included a moment where she tells one of the characters to suck it. Harding told Margot Robbie that she would have liked to have actually said that phrase in real life under those circumstances.

- Allison Janney is not a big bird lover. The actress found it difficult to get used to having a bird perched on her shoulder in many scenes. The filmmakers spent a long time choosing from three birds before settling on the least active one.

- Nancy Kerrigan's ice skating routine in the film was choreographed by Canadian figure skater Sarah Kawahara. She also helped Margot Robbie prepare for the role.
