• Margot Robbie plays in an amateur hockey league, but before working on the role of figure skater Tonya Harding, she didn't have much experience skating.
• Steven Rogers' screenplay was included in the so-called "Black List" of 2016 – a list of the most promising, but unrealized films.
• Figure skater Sarah Kawahara trained actress Margot Robbie for the role.
• Allison Janney dreamed of becoming a figure skater as a child and trained seriously. However, at the age of seventeen, she accidentally crashed into sliding glass doors, injuring her right leg. Due to the injury, Janney spent about 8 weeks in the hospital and missed her first semester of college. After the incident, she didn't skate for many years.
• Screenwriter Steven Rogers is an old friend of Allison Janney. He wrote the role of LaVona Golden specifically for her. Previously, Rogers had written roles several times, hoping Janney would play them, but they went to other actresses.
