What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on the true story of Israeli traveler Yossi Ghinsberg and his book "Lost in the Jungle: A True Story of Adventure and Survival."
  • The jungle scenes were filmed in the Australian state of Queensland.
  • The survival story of Yossi and Kevin is also featured in one of the episodes of the series "I Shouldn't Be Alive" (2005), season 1, episode 3. There, Yossi and Kevin personally recount how they managed to survive this deadly hike.
  • The illness contracted by Joel Jackson's character (and later by the character played by Daniel Radcliffe), characterized by pain in the leg, is called trench foot (a type of frostbite that occurs with prolonged exposure of the feet to cold and dampness). During World War I (1914-1918), trench foot claimed the lives of 75,000 British and 2,000 American soldiers.
  • It took 26 years to make the film.
  • To convincingly portray a person who had reached an extreme state of exhaustion, Daniel Radcliffe went on a strict diet. His daily ration consisted of one chicken breast and one nutritional bar, plus a large amount of coffee and cigarettes.
