The film is based on the novel of the same name by John Brosnan.
This picture is a blatant, cheap imitation of Steven Spielberg's 'Jurassic Park' (1993).
Instead of using CGI technology, Roger Corman made do with miniature dinosaur models and outdated animation.
With a budget of $1 million, the film grossed exactly that amount in the United States.
Interestingly, Laura Dern, the daughter of Diane Ladd, starred in "Jurassic Park" in the same year (1993).
The protagonists of the original novel are a couple of journalists in love, while the film’s protagonists are a caretaker and an environmental advocate who are not in love with each other.
In the novel, the main villain is a man, while in the film, the villain is a woman.
The storyline concerning the mass infection of women was completely absent in the novel.
Initially, the novel attributes the killings to a snow leopard. In the film, a bobcat is named as the killer.
In total, Diane Ladd was involved in filming this movie for five days.
Some characters were named after real people: Dr. Jane Tiptree – James Tiptree Jr. (the pseudonym of writer Alice Bradley); "Doc" Smith – Edward E. Smith (who was known as "Doc").
The film was shot in 18 days.
