In 2010, the production was revived, receiving Tony Awards for "Best Revival of a Play," "Best Actor" (Denzel Washington), and "Best Actress" (Viola Davis). The film adaptation featured all five adult actors from the 2010 production. Washington played the lead role and also directed the film.
