Short description
Mothra's dark counterpart, Battra, emerges to eliminate humanity on behalf of the Earth. Two tiny fairies called the Cosmos offer their help by calling Mothra to battle the creature. Unfortunately a meteorite has awoken a hibernating Godzilla as a three way battle for the Earth begins.

What's left behind the scenes

  • This is the nineteenth film in the Godzilla series, the sixth film featuring the giant moth Mothra, and the first and only film about Battra.
  • In Japan, the film was released simply as “Godzilla vs. Mothra,” which leads many viewers to believe it's a remake of the 1964 film of the same name.
  • The film became the most successful in the Heisei series, the fourth highest-grossing monster film in Japan, and the second highest-grossing monster film in Asia after “Jurassic Park” (1993).
  • Initially, a film called “Mothra vs. Bagan” was planned, but Toho studio decided not to risk making a film that wasn't about Godzilla.
  • The second option was the film “Godzilla vs. Gigamoth,” where Gigamoth is Mothra mutated by atomic radiation.
  • Battra also appears in a cameo in the film “Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla” (1994).
  • It is quite obvious that the meteorite mentioned in the film is the approaching SpaceGodzilla, who appeared 2 years later in a new Godzilla film.
