The "O" in the title refers to Osaka, the setting for the film's storyline, which is based on the corresponding arc from Hiroi Oku's original manga.
Motion capture technology was used during the film's production, and the resulting footage was then converted into computer graphics.
It took 5 years to make the film.
Unlike the films, anime series, and manga, the characters find themselves in the Ganz, but their presence there does not cause clones to form. Furthermore, the main characters within the Ganz are visible to other people and do not exist in an alternate reality.
