- Miguel Ángel Egea and Carlos López, the screenwriters of "The Dream Girl" (1998), in which the characters from "The Queen of Spain" appeared, sued director Fernando Trueba and his wife and producer Cristina Huete for breach of contract and the use of characters they had created (the sequel features 8 characters from the first film). Rafael Azcona and David Trueba were the other two screenwriters of "The Dream Girl." Azcona died in 2008, and Trueba is the brother of the sequel’s director, Fernando Trueba.
