The Reptile character's condition is called 'harlequin ichthyosis,' hence his appearance, including scales. This is a real existing disease, however, recent advances in medicine allow people with this condition to live longer (the longest recorded lifespan is 31 years, the patient was born in 1986).
According to Jeri Ryan, she agreed to star in the short film at the request of – the actress was sure it was part of a pitch for a feature film.
