- Elizabeth Banks agreed to participate in the project, but later left the film's cast. Sarah Paulson replaced her.
- The “Jeanne Toussaint” necklace is a replica of a 1931 necklace with colored and white diamonds, commissioned by Jacques Cartier for the Maharaja of Nawanagar. The piece, made for the film by the Cartier jewelry house, is 15–20% smaller than the original (to fit Anne Hathaway’s proportions), and uses zirconium oxide crystals instead of diamonds.
