A Street Cat Named Bob

A Street Cat Named Bob follows James Bowen, a London street musician working to stay clean after years of drug addiction. He is barely getting by when he finds an injured ginger tomcat in his flat, names him Bob and nurses him back to health, expecting to send him on his way once the cat recovers. Bob has other ideas and starts trailing James everywhere, and the two become constant companions as James rebuilds his life and reconnects with the people around him.

The film is based on Bowen's autobiographical book about the same friendship. Roger Spottiswoode directed it from a screenplay by Maria Nation and Tim John, with Adam Rolston producing. It is the thirteenth of the fourteen features Spottiswoode has directed, coming between Midnight Sun and The Beach House. Luke Treadaway plays James, and Ruta Gedmintas, Joanne Froggatt, Anthony Stewart Head, Caroline Goodall and Beth Goddard appear alongside him, among a credited cast of thirty-one.

Made for around 8 million dollars, the film took about 18 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.3 out of 10 from roughly 37,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.9 out of 10 from around 1,600 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 65 reviews is noticeably lower than the audience scores on both sites, suggesting the film found more favour with viewers than with reviewers.
