Short description
When Day, a sunny fellow, encounters Night, a stranger of distinctly darker moods, sparks fly! Day and Night are frightened and suspicious of each other at first, and quickly get off on the wrong foot. But as they discover each other's unique qualities--and come to realize that each of them offers a different window onto the same world-the friendship helps both to gain a new perspective.
What's left behind the scenes
- The cartoon was shown before the feature-length animated film "Toy Story 3" (2010).
- Unlike previous Pixar shorts, the animation combines 2D and 3D elements. This is the second Pixar film to use 2D graphics (the first was "Your Friend the Rat" (2007)).
- Besides ambient sounds (nature, passing airplanes, etc.), the only words spoken in the cartoon are excerpts from a radio broadcast. The radio broadcast in the cartoon is taken from a lecture by Dr. Wayne Dyer, a motivational speaker. Director Teddy Newton recalled listening to his recordings in his youth and decided to include an excerpt in his film.
