What's left behind the scenes

  • The full director's cut has a runtime of 112 minutes.
  • While preparing for the role, Anthony Perkins was ordained as a minister.
  • In the original script, Peter Shane, played by Anthony Perkins, was a shoe salesman. Screenwriter Barry Sandler changed his profession to a priest at Perkins' suggestion, in order to further mock the moral standards of the people of the United States.
  • The role of Bobby was offered to Jeff Bridges, but after the offer came fierce financial disputes, and the role went to John Loflin.
