Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) is an error detection method used in data transmission, employing an acknowledgement signal (the receiver sends service data indicating correct reception of a data segment or packet) and a timeout (a specified period within which acknowledgement should be received) to ensure reliable transmission over unreliable services. If the data sender does not receive acknowledgement before the timeout expires, it typically retransmits the frame or packet until acknowledgement is received, or a pre-defined number of retransmissions is exceeded.
