What's left behind the scenes
- The original screenplay was written by Graham Yost, but his material was changed so significantly that he requested his name be removed from the credits.
- During filming in the Canadian province of British Columbia, experienced parachutist Kate Perepelkin died. Canadian authorities had not granted permission for this stunt.
- Initially, the film was to be directed by the now-defunct Savoy Pictures. In that case, the film would have been more large-scale, with an abundance of visual and computer effects. The film company even offered Sylvester Stallone $20 million for the role, and he agreed to star. Unfortunately, the studio ceased to exist before filming began. The screenplay was acquired by 20th Century Fox, who made changes to it and created a more modest film with a budget of $30 million.
