What's left behind the scenes

  • Instead of the usual 9 weeks, the pre-production stage lasted 21 weeks.
  • The film is banned from screening in Ukraine.
  • David Hackl could have directed the final film, as Kevin Greutert was offered to direct the sequel to 'Paranormal Activity'. However, Todd Williams took on 'Paranormal Activity 2', and then Lionsgate studio assigned 'Saw 3D' to Greutert.
  • The film's screenwriters, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, were specifically present on set to help director Kevin Greutert better realize their screenplay ideas.
  • Gabby West won a cameo role in the show 'Scream Queens', as did Tanedra Howard from the sixth 'Saw' film.
  • Over 400 extras were involved in the mall trap scene.
  • This installment of the franchise cost Lionsgate Studios more than all the others. This is due to the large expenses associated with filming in 3D.
  • The film was reworked six times to achieve an R rating. Previously, the MPAA had given it an NC-17 rating five times.
  • The film's original title was "Saw 3D - Traps Come Alive." After the film was presented at Comic-Con, producers shortened the title to simply "Saw 3D."
  • The writers of "Saw 3D" initially proposed dividing the final chapter into two parts, but Lionsgate Studios, disappointed with the box office results of the sixth film, decided to combine the two films into one.
  • Screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan conceived of the 'Garage' trap while writing the fourth film, but producers deemed it too brutal. The screenwriters tried to include the trap in the fifth and sixth films, but were only able to use it in the seventh installment at the personal request of Kevin Greutert, the film's director.
  • This is the only installment of 'Saw' where a person is shown dying from the 'Jawbreaker' mechanism. In previous films, victims were able to escape the trap.
  • This is the first film to feature traps located in a public place.
  • When Bobby saves Suzanne, a sharp rod pierces his side three times. Later, as he tries to save his wife and crawls upwards towards the goal, the scars from the rods alternately disappear and reappear.
  • At the 63rd minute of the film, several non-functional IP addresses are displayed on the investigator's monitor. These addresses cannot be used, as an IP address can only consist of 4 fields with values from 0 to 255, separated by periods. Also, it can be noticed that higher on the screen the word 'description' is misspelled – desciption.
  • In the 76th minute, Jill plunges a nail file into Hoffman's neck, which he pulls out of the wound a couple of seconds later. In the next scene, when Hoffman enters the room where Jill is hiding, it can be noticed that the wound on his neck is already gone.
  • In the 78th minute, a bloody streak on Jill's forehead can be seen appearing shortly before Hoffman hits her head against the table.
  • David Hackl could have directed the final film, as Kevin Greutert was offered to direct the sequel to "Paranormal Activity." However, Todd Williams took on "Paranormal Activity 2," and then Lionsgate studio secured "Saw 3D" for Greutert.
  • Gabby West won an episodic role in the show "Scream Queens," as did Tanedra Howard from the sixth "Saw" film.
  • The film's initial title was "Saw 3D – The Traps Come Alive." After presenting the film at Comic-Con, the producers shortened the title to simply "Saw 3D."
