Instead of the usual 9 weeks, the pre-production stage lasted 21 weeks.

David Hackl could have directed the final film, as Kevin Greutert was offered to direct the sequel to 'Paranormal Activity'. However, Todd Williams took on 'Paranormal Activity 2', and then Lionsgate studio assigned 'Saw 3D' to Greutert.

When Bobby saves Suzanne, a sharp rod pierces his side three times. Later, as he tries to save his wife and crawls upwards towards the goal, the scars from the rods alternately disappear and reappear.
At the 63rd minute of the film, several non-functional IP addresses are displayed on the investigator's monitor. These addresses cannot be used, as an IP address can only consist of 4 fields with values from 0 to 255, separated by periods. Also, it can be noticed that higher on the screen the word 'description' is misspelled – desciption.
In the 76th minute, Jill plunges a nail file into Hoffman's neck, which he pulls out of the wound a couple of seconds later. In the next scene, when Hoffman enters the room where Jill is hiding, it can be noticed that the wound on his neck is already gone.
In the 78th minute, a bloody streak on Jill's forehead can be seen appearing shortly before Hoffman hits her head against the table.
