Short description
The behind the scenes story of the life of A.A. Milne and the creation of the Winnie the Pooh stories inspired by his son Christopher Robin.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming took place in the counties of Oxfordshire, Surrey, East Sussex, and London.
  • Domhnall Gleeson (of Irish birth) and Margot Robbie (Australian) worked intensively with speech coaches to perfect the pronunciation of members of the British upper class in the post-World War II period. Gleeson, for example, remained in character as Alan Milne (1882-1956) from morning till night.
  • The film accurately portrays the relationship between Christopher Robin Milne and his parents. Christopher Robin never forgave his father for exploiting his image (intentionally or not) to sell his books. Christopher Robin passed away in 1996. His relationship with his mother was also strained; she strongly opposed his marriage. Alan Milne died in 1956, and Christopher Robin had little contact with his mother until her death 15 years later. Christopher Robin's daughter, Clare, died in 2012 at the age of 56.
  • The end credits inform viewers that Christopher Robin took none of the money earned from the sale of his father's books. Christopher Robin did accept money, but didn't spend it on himself; it all went to Clare, who was born with cerebral palsy.
