Short description
Electricity titans Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse compete to create a sustainable system and market it to the American people.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Jake Gyllenhaal was initially cast as George Westinghouse, but the actor was busy with other projects.
  • Filming of some scenes took place at "Cragside House," a country house from the Renaissance era near the town of Rothbury in Northumberland. It once served as the home of William Armstrong, 1st Baron Armstrong, founder of the arms company "Armstrong Whitworth." It was the first house with hydroelectric lighting, using lamps invented by Joseph Swan.
  • The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2017, and its release in the US was scheduled for November 2017. Following accusations of sexual harassment against Harvey Weinstein, which arose after an article on the subject appeared in the "New York Times" in October 2017, these plans fell through, and "Weinstein Co." sold the film to "Lantern Entertainment," which subsequently ceded distribution rights to "101 Studio." Eventually, the film was released in European cinemas in July 2019, and in the US in October 2019.
