Short description
A kindhearted street urchin named Aladdin embarks on a magical adventure after finding a lamp that releases a wisecracking genie while a power-hungry Grand Vizier vies for the same lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Sir Patrick Stewart dreamed of playing Jafar. Once, the actor turned down an offer to work on the animated film "Aladdin" (1992) by Walt Disney Pictures, and has sincerely regretted it ever since.
  • Tara Sutaria also auditioned for the role of Jasmine, alongside Naomi Scott.
  • Frank Welker once again voiced Abu and the Cave of Wonders, as he did in the 1992 animated film "Aladdin." He became the first actor in a Disney animated film to voice the same characters in a remake that alternates between animation and live-action performance.
  • When the Genie shows Aladdin the map, you can spot Disney theme parks – "Fantasyland," "Tomorrowland," "Adventureland," and "Magic Kingdom."
  • Filming was scheduled to begin in July 2017, but it had to be postponed because the filmmakers couldn't find actors for the roles of Aladdin and Jasmine.
  • The filmmakers specifically sought out actors with certain ancestries for the filming. Ultimately, Canadian actor Mena Massoud with Egyptian roots was cast as Aladdin, English actress of Indian descent Naomi Scott played Jasmine, Dutch actor of Tunisian origin Marwan Kenzari performed the role of Jafar, Iranian-Americans Navid Negahban and Nazim Pedrad played the Sultan and Dalia respectively, and Turkish-German actor Numan Acar appeared on screen as Hakim.
  • Filming in the UK began on September 6, 2017, and ended on January 24, 2018. Some scenes were filmed in Jordan. Reshoots took place in August 2018. In January 2018, it became known that makeup was applied to white extras during filming to prevent them from standing out in the crowd, which caused a scandal. Producers were accused of hiring too few actors of Middle Eastern and North African origin.
  • Gilbert Gottfried had consistently voiced Iago in all previous projects, but now Iago speaks with the voice of Alan Tudyk.
  • The sorcerer Jafar transforms Iago into a giant bird to steal the magic lamp from Jasmine and Aladdin. This is a reference to the Roc, a huge eagle from medieval Arab mythology. The Roc also appears in the tale of Sinbad the Sailor and in the book 'One Thousand and One Nights'.
