Short description
Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub's arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
What's left behind the scenes
- James Earl Jones and Hans Zimmer are the only ones who worked on the original animated film and are now performing in the same capacity. Jones is involved in voice acting, and Zimmer is the composer.
- In the original film, the mandrill Rafiki was voiced by American Robert Guillaume, who spoke with a Swahili accent. In this film, he will be voiced by John Kani, an actor of African descent. 'Rafiki' translates from Swahili as 'friend'.
- Of the three hyenas from the original film – Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed – only Shenzi will retain her name. It was decided to give Banzai and Ed African names, Kamari and Azizi.
- Simba's eyes are light blue in infancy. This actually happens in nature, where lion cubs are born blind and do not open their eyes for approximately ten days. Their eyes become golden-brown when the cubs reach three months of age.
- James Earl Jones and Hans Zimmer are the only ones who worked on the first animated film and reprised their roles here.
- The mandrill Rafiki's name translates from Swahili as "friend".
